In 2016 Jo decided to sell her Gorge neighbourhood house and move to Sidney, a half hour drive from Victoria. Sidney lies on the waterfront. It has one main street of small shops and in the summer. The lamp posts are festooned with colourful hanging baskets, the sidewalks busy with tourists enjoying the laid back atmosphere. The coffee shops have lineups to the door. AND Sidney is famous for its second-hand bookstores. Just the ticket.
The Ladies Housing Society was quickly incorporated (Val, Jane, Cathy and Randi) and, in short order, half of a brand new duplex was found. It suited her perfectly — small, modern, open area with a postage stamp garden and NO maintenance. Jo loved her house and she loved Sidney.

The Value of Humour
As hard as it might be, let’s try to hang on to this during these tough times! “There is nothing in the world so Irresistibly contagious as Laughter and Good Humour.”
Uhhh, who?
This headline, which was in newspapers across Canada this morning, is totally disrespectful to a man who made serving this country his life’s work. Olympic level athlete, Rhode’s scholar, and someone who served in Cabinet in various portfolios and The Canadian Press focuses on his tenure as PM of ‘just 79 days’ as the headline. You should be ashamed of yourselves. And you wring your hands as newspapers collapse and are seen as irrelevant in this time. Pfft Times-Colonist
The birds are busy in the garden this morning – lots of LBJs and hummingbirds flitting around.
Herstory
Why do kids not learn about these women in school? Because it’s History and not Herstory (Agreed. Half of my female ancestors have one name. Peter)
Top Of Mind
Book Bans
I remember when they un-banned Catcher In TheRye in the Chilliwack School District and we got to read it inEnglish 11. Loved it. Lots of book bannings in Chilliwack where there are more churches than common sense.

Hi Bernice Sending big hugs your way. Thank you so much for this.

Hi Val, Such a lovely message, all the photos bring back so many wonderful memories… ️ We married in 1989 and she was our MC. We had so many laughs as she attempted to pronounce the Dutch names for the out of town guests…
