How Things Work

The Focus

Origins focuses on two extended families — that of my father,  Sydney Frank Bruce (1899-1970) and that of my mother,  Hester Spriggs (1905-2004).

Two Houses

Each family has a separate space on the website which I call a ‘house.’ On the main menu, find House, then choose your house of interest — Bruce House or Spriggs House.

Each house has its own Archive (images, documents and media), collection of Tales (stories about interesting characters from the family tree) and Cafe (forum), all of which you can access from the Bruce House or Spriggs House menu. You have access to both houses.

Getting Material

All the archive material is in image form (.jpg). To download any item, right click on it, choose ‘save as image’ and navigate to where you want the image on your computer.

How To Participate

To participate in the forum, leave comments or have a My Account (see below) you must register (go to login page) and log in.

My Account

Your own My Account page is available to you once you log in. On the My Account page is access to your personal profile for edting and a list of all your posts.

The Tales Approach

There is no approach. I went where the material drew me, wandering thither and yon through the family tree. Genealogists beware, this serendipitous approach may not work for you

Changemaker

At the end of some Tales you will see the label ‘Change Maker’ next to the person’s portrait. This is a designation placed by me on those ancestors whom I think made a significant contribution to society.
