About Archive

How It Works
Purpose

The purpose of this ‘family history’ is simply to display and make available to interested visitors documents, images and stories relevant to our Caldwell, Bruce and extended families, including our newly ‘discovered’ Chinese families (they actually found us) — Lai, Kwan and Ko (and more to come, we hope) by sharing what we have and inviting you and others to share what you have.

A Beginning

For now, the contents of the archive are largely materials passed down in my family as well as materials made available by our Chinese cousins . Photography was a new technology in the1800s, and limited to professionals. Thus, the photographic images displayed here are almost all from 1900 on, with the exception of some historic and stock paintings included for context. To read stories of our families, please go to Tales on the menu.

To Give Material

You may contribute materials (digital documents and images) to the site by emailing them to myself along with explanatory notes. In time, this site will allow you and others to add materials directly. We hope to grow a fascinating, comprehensive repository of images, documents and stories available to all.

To Get Material

You can download text and images by right clicking with your mouse and choosing ”Copy’ or ‘Save image as. Each of the six ‘Parts’ of Tales can be downloaded as a single pdf file. See ‘Using the Tales viewer ‘on the Tales dropdown menu for instructions. Stock images may be subject to copyright.

Layout

For simplicity, the materials are organized in galleries by country. in galleries by place, with a brief paragraph at the head of the page and/or gallery which provides the context .

No Restrictions

You are free to download and use without permissions any of the materials on this site owned and copyrighted generated by Peter Bruce. Stock images (obvious from their nature and context) are excluded. Enjoy.
