Joyce Finds Strength
Build a Personal Support Team
A single parent
Joyce is 46. She’s the Chief Financial Officer for her band of 840 folks. Joyce is separated with two teenage kids. She loves her occupation and is justly proud of her career achievements. But things are not going well at work.
Barriers at work
All her work peers are males and dismiss her talents and efforts. Crucial information fails to reach her desk and she’s left out of important decisions. Joyce feels isolated and overwhelmed.
Finding New Earth Village
In fact, she was ready to leave her career behind when an acquaintance at a workshop mentioned New Earth Village. Joyce took a look and joined. In Daisy, a New Earth Village talking circle, she found three other women with similar work issues.
A new Joyce
It wasn’t long before the foursome had organized a new New Earth Village talking circle devoted to the issues and support of indigenous women in management. It promises to be one of New Earth Village’s most popular sites. At work, the new Joyce (aka The Force) is back in the saddle - more assertive, more confident and more plugged in than ever.
The Point:
Administrators who feel isolated and overwhelmed can find support and rejuvenation from others beyond the community who share their experience. Those others can also provide crucial experiences and information that can inspire and empower the recipient to get 'back in the saddle.'
